The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas Buyer’s Guide: What’s New, What’s Standard, and What Trims Are Available

Are you considering buying a versatile people hauler from Volkswagen? This three-row SUV boasts stellar safety features and has a cabin that was made to keep large groups comfortable, whether tackling daily errands or venturing off for a great road trip. For the 2025 year, the Atlas is back with a few well-designed new features, some generous standard features, and the beloved basics of the model. And as a dedicated Volkswagen dealer, we’re excited to carry it! Today, we’ll go over the updates, as well as some impressive features you’ll get, no matter which trim you choose. Speaking of trims, we’ll provide an overview of this year’s models so you can get a sense of their personality and benefits.
What’s New
Let’s start with the new additions to the Atlas! For 2025, every model comes standard with wireless charging. That’s the perfect complement to the already standard wireless smartphone connectivity. With these two features included in every Atlas, you now have the option to leave your USB cords at home completely. And that should help create a clean and clear dashboard area.
Also newly standard is Light Assist, which is the brand’s High Beam Control for Headlights. It automatically controls your headlights, activating them when you need added visibility in low-light settings and dimming them when there’s oncoming traffic. This nicely rounds out the already robust suite of driver assist features.
Want more color options? You got them for 2025! This year, Mountain Blue Lake, Avocado Green, and Pure Grey are accessible to ensure you get the perfect color for your style. Meanwhile, if you choose the performance-oriented SEL Premium R-Line, you’ll enjoy some upgraded comfort perks. These include headrest perforation for improved breathability and reduced slipping, as well as four-way lumbar support for better lower back reinforcement. Finally (and this is a big one), you’ll get massaging front seats.
Under the hood of each new Atlas, you’ll find the standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Kicking out 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, it provides an impressive power boost in torque over a broader rev range compared to the previous engine. All in all, the 2025 Atlas has stepped up its game in terms of standard tech, safety, and convenience features.

Standard Performance and Safety Perks
Now that we’ve covered what’s new, let’s take a look at the popular standard features you can find across the 2025 Atlas, starting with the performance and safety perks. Every new Atlas gets a Drive Mode Select system. It offers Eco, Comfort, Sport, Custom, and Snow modes. Plus, AWD models get an Off-Road mode for greater exploring possibilities. When you select a new driving mode, the vehicle makes instant adjustments that improve handling for your environment.
On the driver-assist front, the IQ.DRIVE system is standard across all trims. It harnesses the power of front and rear radar, a front camera, and ultrasound sensors around the vehicle to monitor your surroundings. Travel Assist, a semi-automated driving assist, is part of this suite, as is Front Assist, which can alert you to and help you avoid potential forward-facing crashes. It can even detect pedestrians and come to a complete stop. The system also includes a blind spot monitor, a rear traffic alert system, and a lane-keeping system, to name a few of its features.
Standard Comfort Perks
There’s no need to pay extra for standard comfort perks. Every 2025 Atlas offers benefits like second-row seats that boast a 14-degree backrest recline feature, creating the perfect napping or media-streaming position. The second row also folds flat, tilts, and slides up to 7.7 inches for easier third-row access. Sliding it forward can even be done when child car seats are in place, meaning you don’t have to take them out just to enter or exit the third row.
Volkswagen is treating every 2025 Atlas shopper to leatherette seats that look sophisticated and are easy to clean. Front heated and ventilated seats come standard, too, for terrific climate control. On the topic of climate control, a three-zone Climatronic automatic climate control comes standard, too, to minimize those temperature disputes. Second-row passengers get an armrest with integrated cupholders, too, so everyone can take their favorite beverages along for the ride.
Here’s a feature we’d usually only expect from upper trims: the standard heated steering wheel with paddle shifters. Keep your fingers toasty on cold mornings, and switch gears without taking your hands off the steering wheel. Luxury and relaxation are built into every 2025 Atlas—not only reserved for upper trims.
Standard Tech Perks
Tech enthusiasts will have their fill of features in the 2025 Atlas. Every 2025 model enjoys the advanced Volkswagen Digital Cockpit system, putting important vehicle and journey data on a fully digital instrument cluster just beyond the steering wheel. It offers four views, including car status, driver assistance features, and navigation. So you never have to look far to see your next turn or know when you need to pull over. Voice Control comes standard, too, so you can do things like make calls and change the song without taking your hands off the wheel.

A Quick Trim Breakdown
Let’s take a quick look at the 2025 trims, so you can decide which one fits your lifestyle.
